Every year, the Kabaka Birthday Run transforms the streets of Uganda into a space of national mobilization.
The 2026 edition reached a new milestone, bringing together more than 130,000 participants around a shared cause: the fight against HIV/AIDS.
Yet, as impressive as this figure is, it only tells part of the story.
What truly defines this event is the experience lived by its participants:
- Entire families running together for a public health cause
- Young people mobilized around a strong message of prevention
- Institutions and companies united in a collective dynamic
- A shared energy that transcends social and professional boundaries
It is precisely within this human dynamic that TOA Uganda chose to engage.
A strong national cause: accelerating the fight against HIV/AIDS by 2030
Organized by the Buganda Kingdom, the Kabaka Birthday Run 2026 is driven by a clear ambition: contributing to the eradication of HIV/AIDS by 2030.
This year’s theme “Men for good health to save the girl child and end HIV/AIDS by 2030” carries a message that is deeply structuring for society.
Behind this theme, several key realities emerge:
- Public health as a collective priority, in a context where prevention remains critical
- The role of men in driving social transformation, particularly in prevention behaviors
- The protection of young girls, who remain highly vulnerable to infection and social inequalities
These elements are interconnected. Together, they form an ecosystem of action where every stakeholder has a role to play.
This is what makes the Kabaka Birthday Run much more than a sporting event: a large-scale platform for social transformation.
TOA Uganda: a commitment that goes beyond sponsorship
In this context, TOA Uganda participated as a bronze sponsor, alongside its strategic partner Airtel Uganda.
However, reducing this involvement to simple sponsorship would not fully reflect its significance.
This engagement is built on a clear rationale:
- Strengthening a key strategic partnership within the telecom ecosystem
- Supporting an initiative aligned with the Group’s CSR pillars (social impact & community engagement)
- Being present where communities actively mobilize
- Contributing to a high-impact national movement
In the telecom infrastructure sector, value is not created solely through towers or networks.
It is also built through shared commitments with the communities and territories we serve.
A moment of recognition and collective pride
On April 10, TOA Uganda was honored during the official sponsor recognition ceremony.
While often perceived as a formal institutional moment, this recognition carried a much deeper human dimension.
For the teams present, it represented:
- The acknowledgment of a real, on-the-ground commitment
- Recognition as an active contributor to a major national event
- Pride in belonging to a visible and engaged organization
- Confirmation that TOA’s impact goes beyond its core business
Moments like these reinforce a strong belief within TOA: impact is not measured solely through business performance, but also through tangible societal contribution.
A human mobilization before anything else
On race day, April 12, Uganda became a space of collective solidarity.
More than 130,000 participants took part in the 2026 edition. Yet beyond the scale, it is the human experience that stands out.
On the ground, the reality was powerful:
- Thousands of people running for a shared cause
- Corporate teams standing side by side with local communities
- An atmosphere of solidarity and collective pride
- Spontaneous interactions between participants, partners, and institutions
For TOA Uganda teams, this day was experienced as a moment of direct connection with the communities they help support indirectly through their infrastructure.
TOA teams: the human face of commitment
Behind every participation, there are people.
The presence of TOA Uganda teams at the Kabaka Birthday Run 2026 highlights a key reality: societal engagement is not declared, it is lived.
This commitment translated into:
- Active participation of employees in the race
- On-the-ground presence alongside partners and communities
- Strengthened team spirit beyond the operational environment
- A shared sense of pride in contributing to a public interest cause
These are the moments that give deeper meaning to everyday work within an infrastructure company.
Connectivity and impact: redefining what it means to “connect”
As a TowerCo, TOA plays a critical role in deploying and managing telecom infrastructure across Africa.
But this mission goes far beyond the technical dimension.
In practice, infrastructure enables :
- Access to digital services
- Economic development of territories
- Reduction of the digital divide
Yet its true impact is also measured by its ability to integrate into and support local dynamics.
Participation in the Kabaka Birthday Run reflects this broader vision: connectivity only matters if it strengthens communities.
Key takeaways
- Over 130,000 participants mobilized for a national public health cause
- A strong theme focused on ending HIV/AIDS by 2030
- TOA Uganda’s commitment alongside Airtel Uganda
- Official recognition during the April 10 sponsor ceremony
- Strong employee engagement on race day
- A clear vision: connecting infrastructure while supporting communities
Beyond connectivity: a shared responsibility
The Kabaka Birthday Run 2026 highlights a fundamental truth: the most sustainable transformations are driven by collective action.
For TOA Uganda, this engagement goes far beyond symbolic participation. It reflects a broader vision where telecom infrastructure plays a key role in both territorial development and community empowerment.
Through its involvement in this event, TOA reaffirms a strong belief: connectivity only has value if it concretely improves the lives of the populations it serves.
Initiatives like the Kabaka Birthday Run perfectly embody this vision bringing people together, raising awareness and creating meaningful impact beyond the event itself.
We warmly thank the organizers, partners, employees and all participants for making this 2026 edition a success.
TOA continues to strengthen its presence in Uganda by deploying reliable and high-performance telecom infrastructure, supporting the country’s digital transformation.
